Leimert Park Business Highlight -Metaphor Club Co-working Space

The Metaphor Club is a Co-working space on Crenshaw near  Angeles Vista where Members enjoy free coffee, treats and friendly vibes. Privacy booths and space rentals are available.
We caught up with Co-Owner Lawrence Gilliam, who's also a SoLA Owner, to tell us a little more about it.

What is the Metaphor Club?

The Metaphor Club is a creative co-working space located in the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles, CA.  An intentional black space that centers creativity and productivity.  Our membership is composed of creatives, entrepreneurs, remote workers and academics.  Along with the main club, we offer an affordable event space next door.  The space is perfect for the execution of that next great idea.  We've hosted yoga and dance classes, seminars, board meetings, rehearsals, pop up retail events and social gatherings.

What do you do best? What separates you from the rest?

Our space provides a physical home for a community of creatives, businesses owners, remote workers and students.  Organic networking, ad-hoc collaboration, and spirited debate are byproducts of daily community interaction in the club.  We provide the space, the wifi, the coffee and tea.  Productivity ensues.   Authentic black space.

How did you identify South LA as your location?

Three of the four Metaphor Club founders were born and raised along the Crenshaw corridor, specifically, Leimert Park, Hyde Park and Inglewood.  All of us continue to live along the corridor.  We are the product of this neighborhood and feel strongly about creating a physical space for productivity and collaboration in the community.

As a owner of SoLA Food Co-op, what motivated you to join

Simply, we need healthy food options.  I love the idea of a community owned and managed grocery store.

When we open our store, what's one thing you hope we carry?

I am looking forward to a robust produce section.

How can the community support your business this year?

One, become a member or consider using one of our event spaces.  Two, stop by any of our public events and share your energy and intellect.
